Hemkund is not only a holy place for Sikhs but also for Hindus. It is perched at an altitude of 4,500 m above the sea level. According to the famous folklore, it is the place where the tenth Sikh Guru named Guru Gobind Singh united with the god after the extended meditation.
But the place remains undisclosed for several years. In the year 1930, two devout Sikhs named Sant Sohan Singh and Havaldar Mohan Singh discovered the location of Hemkund based on the writings of the Guru Gobind Singh. Another popular legend states that this is the place where Lord Lakshman did a penance. The idle time to visit Hemkund is between July and September.
In order to access the Hemakund one should undergo in trekking, The trekking commences at Gobindghat . Near Hemkund one couldn’t find any restaurants, hotels and any type of accommodation facilities. However, you will find the accommodation in Gurudwara which provide meals for free of cost. The Gurudwara can accommodate thousands of pilgrims in its four large buildings.
